About me

I have been an employee, an employer, self-employed and unemployed. But in each of these existences, I was a thinker – always looking around the bend to see where the road would lead next. The Armchair Energist is the next stop (and hopefully a LONG stop!)

As a teen of the 70′s, one of my great interests was photography. At the time I entered my teens, Richard Nixon was stepping down and Gerald Ford was sworn in as president. The nation was introduced to the Ford family. I was immediately infatuated with his daughter, Susan. She was about 2 years older than me AND wanted to pursue a career as a photojournalist. I was smitten. In short time, I got a job at a local photo store and set my sights at becoming a photojournalist.

That was, until I received some counseling by my father. ‘Mike, there is no money in photojournalism. If you want to do something, you might want to try something that pays.’ Little did I know how this temporary diversion would come full circle.

I was still interested in photography but became interested in a new, upcoming career path that I saw on a commercial while watching an episode of ‘The Twilight Zone’ – computer programming! After graduating in the late 70′s, I worked in the IT field (both directly and indirectly) for almost 25 years. It gave me an excellent base for what would become the ‘New Media’.

While interviewing for News Corp. in 2008, I decided to keep busy until I landed a job in media. One of my ideas was to start a blog based on ‘no food for fuel’, basically because of the faulty green movement’s credo that all fossil fuel is bad. Meanwhile, they had no problem taking food products (like corn to produce ethanol) while people were starving. The Armchair Energist was born on 24 June 2008.

I morphed from energy issues into news and politics as the Presidential campaign of 2008 wore on. I have been a news and political junkie since the days of Susan Ford and this was a perfect fit. Shortly after starting my blog, I began to blogcast on BlogTalkRadio.com from December 2008 until May 2009.

Currently, I host the “The Armchair Energist Show” on From the Right Radio. The show airs weekdays at 11am-noon Eastern. The show is a mix of hot news & politics and cool rock-n-roll. I have since added the live webcast on Livestream. Plus, you can catch the podcast here or on iTunes.

After interviewing Parcbench CEO Kellen Guida for my show, I started writing for them in September 2009. Parcbench is a conservative pop culture site. I moved to Managing Editor in January of 2010. On September 10, 2010, I became the CEO of Parcbench, taking the reins from Kellen.

The New Media is where I lead my quest for some common sense in times that seem nonsensical. I will continue this quest here at TAE, on FTR Radio and at Parcbench.
