Mainly, I thought of Barney as a kid. You can always look into the faces of kids and see what they’re thinking, if they’re happy or sad. That’s what I tried to do with Barney.” Don Knotts

Here comes that alternate universe feeling again. I watched Barney Frank and I had to pinch myself…did he just say what I thought he said?

In an interview with Maria Baritomo on CNBC yesterday, Rep. Frank threw out this great idea:

Here’s the text:

I think at this point, there needs to be an immediate increase in spending, and I think this is a time when deficit fear has to take a second, uh, a second seat. I do think this is the time for a very important kind of dose of Cajunism. Yes, I think later on, there should be tax increases. Speaking personally, I think there are a lot of rich people out there who we can tax at a point down the road to recover some of this money.

The Democrats have protested the Bush Administration ‘squandering the surplus’, letting the national debt double to $10 trillion and allowing the budget deficit to expand unchecked. Yet, Rep. Frank, whose fingerprints are all over the Fannie/Freddie mess and the subprime mortgage meltdown, decided that we should forget the deficit, print more money and tax the daylights out of the ‘rich’ once the dust clears.

Call me cynical, but I think that Rep. Frank is believing the polls before the ballots are counted. With an Obama win and the Democrats in charge of the House and Senate, he could SPEND today and TAX tomorrow! Let’s see…stimulus package equals buying votes and an opportunity to load up the bill with even more pork. It’s an early Christmas AND Hanukkah all rolled up into one bug $300 billion gift.

What would Rep. Frank be saying had Chairman Bernanke said that the irresponsible spending of another third-trillion dollars was approaching felonious? Dare I say that Rep. Frank would be attacking the Chairman with a full-frontal assault. As I stated yesterday, this new stimulus package is bad – period!

Keeping Don Knotts’ words in mind, I can’t help but look at Barney Frank’s face and seeing that he IS like a child: it’s all about HIM and when things go wrong, it’s someone else’s fault.
