The Palin Effect
You may like her. You may hate her. Whatever side you are on, you cannot deny that the choice of Governor Sarah Palin for John McCain’s VP has begun a huge national debate – has feminism finally going to be taken seriously?
I know many strong and accomplished women and one thing that puzzles me is the abject hate for someone who has been on the national scene for a little more than a month. I think that feminists come in all types of examples. Because Gov. Palin is not specifically a liberal woman, I have noticed some women view her as the antithesis of feminism. I disagree.
Because I do not have female-specific anatomical features, I defer to Camille Paglia. Not only does Ms. Paglia qualify as a woman. but she is also one of the most academically honest liberal feminists I know of and read regularly. Her latest work does not disappoint.
After reading Ms. Paglia’s article, you may still not agree with Gov. Palin’s ideology, but I hope you can respect her opinions and achievements.
