Ahead of the Curve (Unfortunately!)
While I am new to blogging for the most part (3 months), I like when I get ‘ahead’ of a story. Each morning, I pore through tons of stories and bring the best of the best to you. As it sometimes happens, I read (or in this case, hear) an analysis of the story I blogged, I snicker and say ‘he/she reads my blog too!’
Yesterday, I heard Rush Limbaugh talking about a story and my ears perked right up. Rush was talking about how three Democrat senators and one House Democrat petitioned Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to ask Iraqi official not to award oil contracts until their legislature instituted a hydrocarbon law. Among other things, the law would state the formula by which the Iraqi oil profits would be split.
The Iraqis were going to award several no bid contracts to Shell, BP, ExxonMobil, Chevron and Total. The contracts were going to for one year and were intended to get Iraq’s daily oil production up from 2.5 million barrels to an estimated 3 million barrels. It is estimated that Iraq could reach a maximum of 4.5 million barrels. After the service contracts expired, competitive bid contracts would be awarded next year.
One stumbling block was that the oil companies wanted to be paid in oil rather than dollars. In recent weeks, it was revealed that the letter sent to Secretary Rice by Senators Schumer, Kerry and McCaskell and Rep. Henry Waxman may have pushed Oil Minister Hussein al-Shahristani to pull the offer from the chosen five. Two months later, the Iraqis announces a twenty-year lucrative service contract with China.
Asim Jihad said Iraqi officials hope the deal with China “will refute all the rumors that say the American companies are the only ones benefiting from the American occupation.”
After the US lead ‘Coalition of the Willing’ worked so hard to liberate and secure Iraq and let the free-elected officials take responsibility of their new democracy, the Iraqis folded to criticism of the West (some of which came from self-loathing Americans) and inked the deal with China.
I don’t know if this issue will become a ‘hot topic’ in MSM or any other news circles, but the fact that some people suffering from ‘American guilt’ will stop at nothing to destroy this country after so many men and woman have paid the ultimate price to secure freedom for an oppressed people and safety of Americans here at home.
