Was it President Bush lifting the executive order prohibiting offshore drilling? Was it the high price of gas that forced many Americans to take ‘staycations’ and drive up the gasoline inventories? Was it the GOP revolt to take over the House floor to debate oil drilling while Speaker Pelosi is on the book signing circuit?

Whatever the case, oil and gasoline prices continue to decline. This news reached the presumptive President, er, I mean Democrat candidate Senator Obama; this news seems to have given him the guts to say that he would approve of ‘some’ drilling, but we need a comprehensive energy plan. The man is a genius.

On the right, Senator McCain continues to stumble his way through his campaign hoping for Obama gaffes rather than offer true substance. His team, so far, has allowed the Obama campaign to define him, and it seems to be working, like McCain is in the pocket of Big Oil as was President Bush.

If I am like many other Americans, when I turn on the news and see all this demagoguery, I feel like I’m watching a poorly written reality show. Sad, isn’t it?

Well, let’s keep doing our own form of cheering. Any movement downward in energy costs help us all – and that’s a good thing.
