Let the Competitive Bidding Begin – Part 3
I didn’t realize that when I wrote the original post on the Iraqi oil fields that it would become a series!
As you may recall, I suggested to the Iraqi oil minister, Hussain al-Sharistani, that the best way to expand their oil production was to open the country’s oil fields to competitive bidding. After about 24 hours after the no-bid scenario flamed out, Mr. al-Sharistani announced that the open bidding process would be the way to go.
Like most good stories, there are villains – in this case, members of the US Congress. As if we haven’t been more involved than many Americans think we have, you could almost tell this one is coming. Cries from Senators Chuck Schumer, John Kerry, Claire McCaskell and Rep. Henry Waxman are kvetching ‘you’re doing it wrong!’
I may be an Armchair Energist but in this case, they are armchair politicians – for the Iraqis! The aforementioned members of Congress are leading the diatribe AGAINST the Iraqis and how they have determined to go about increasing oil production because they feel the Iraqis did not go about it as they would have liked. Boo hoo! I can only wonder if the same calls would be coming from the wells of Congress if Dubya were no longer the President.
Just a friendly comment to our Senators and Representatives: please stop meddling and let the Iraqis continue their march of self determination. Your arrogance is appalling, not to mention – hello – we have a few problems here in the States you urgently need to address.
